TIPS & TRICKS FOR MEETING IN YOUR PARENT GROUP
BEFORE YOU MEET
It may be a good idea for you to start by choosing a person that will facilitate the first meeting. This role can rotate from time to time. The role of the facilitator can include, among other things:
- Start the first conversation in the chat
- Make suggestions for places where you can meet
- Make sure everyone brings something to the first meeting (inspiration HERE)
- Provide input on topics for the meeting (inspiration HERE)
We recommend that the person who created the group starts by taking the role of facilitator.
MEET EACH OTHER IN A PUBLIC PLACE THE FIRST TIME
We recommend that you start by meeting in a public place (café, library or an activity house). It is a good idea to have researched in advance whether there are good baby/child facilities.
Or even better, take a look in our activity catalog, which you will find inside your group – we have scouted for you so that you can easily find a nice place to meet! Press ‘schedule activity’ and get 3 suggestions for fun things to do.
IF YOU MEET IN PRIVATE….
If you meet at someone’s house, make sure you have distributed who brings what. It helps to reduce the pressure on those who choose to invite guests into their home. Use the chat to agree who will bring what. Take a look at our list of things HERE that we recommend you bring with you.
WHAT SHOULD WE TALK ABOUT?
When you meet, we recommend that you start by introducing yourself and your child. You can agree in advance in the chat in case there is a specific topic that you would like to discuss with each other. Remember that you share the parenting role and often have the same worries, challenges, joy and thoughts. Take a look HERE where we have collected suggestions for conversation starters.
IS IT A LITTLE SCARY?
If meeting for the first time might be a little overwhelming for you, we totally understand! If this is the case, you can also suggest that you do an online meeting first. It can be a short meeting of 30 minutes where you get to ‘see’ each other and your child/children.
